Wandsworth Town Hall Wedding Photography — Joe & Beth
Wandsworth Town Hall wedding photography
Wandsworth Town Hall is one of the most photogenic register offices in London, and Joe and Beth's wedding showed exactly why. Polished wood corridors, a sweeping marble staircase, gilded balustrades and a light-filled hall gave us something beautiful around every corner, without a single moment needing to be staged.
If you're planning a register office wedding in south-west London, this guide covers what the building is like, which ceremony room might suit you, and how your day is likely to flow, with Joe and Beth's photos along the way.
The building
Wandsworth Town Hall opened in 1937 and is Grade II listed, prized for its original art deco design and grand marble hall (Wandsworth Council). After your ceremony, the council invites couples to take photos in that marble hall and on its sweeping staircase.
For a photographer, it's a gift. The marble walls glow warm, the brass balustrade has wonderful curves, and skylights pour soft, even light down into the stairwell. Upstairs, the long wood-panelled corridors are lined with tall windows, which make for natural, unhurried portraits on the way in or out of your ceremony.
Ceremony rooms at Wandsworth Town Hall
There are five ceremony rooms, from an eight-person parlour to the 100-person Grand Chamber. Capacity includes everyone in the room: the two of you, witnesses, guests, children and your photographer.
The Grand Chamber is the largest and grandest room, for up to 100 people. Fees are £474 on weekdays and £625 on Saturdays, and it can also be booked on Sundays and bank holidays.
The Alexandra Room seats up to 45 and blends modern and art deco styles. It has an aisle to walk down. Fees are £255 on weekdays and £325 on Saturdays.
The Victoria Room holds up to 25, with rich red tones and an original art deco table, but no aisle. Fees are £221 on weekdays and £243 on Saturdays.
The Elizabeth Room is simple and minimal, for up to 10 people, with an exchange of rings. Fees are £61 on Mondays, £137 Tuesday to Friday and £193 on Saturdays.
The Mayor's Parlour is oak-panelled and intimate, for up to eight people. It's available on Saturdays (£518), Sundays and bank holidays, but not on weekdays.
Fees are the council's 2026 rates, plus £12.50 per certificate. Whichever room you choose, your notice of marriage must give the venue as "The Town Hall, Wandsworth High Street, London", or it won't be valid.
Joe and Beth married in the Victoria Room, and it photographs beautifully: deep red curtains, warm brass lights and that gleaming wooden table give every frame a rich, timeless feel.
Joe and Beth's wedding
Beth wore a short ivory two-piece with puff sleeves and a bow at the back, paired with a loose bouquet of white roses, eucalyptus and a single peach bloom. Joe kept it relaxed in a navy suit and an open collar. Together they looked exactly like themselves, which is all I ever hope for.
Before the ceremony we had a few quiet minutes in the corridor. No posing, just the two of them, a little nervous and very happy.
The ceremony
The Victoria Room was full of family, and the warmth in that room was impossible to miss. The registrar had everyone laughing within minutes, and Joe and Beth spent half the ceremony grinning at each other.
Some of my favourite frames from any ceremony are of the guests. When the vows were done, the whole front row broke into applause, and in the mirror behind them you can just catch someone scooping up a little one for a hug.
The marble staircase
Walking down that staircase as a married couple is a Wandsworth moment in itself. Joe waved to the crowd gathering below, while a family member was already filming from the bottom step.
We then took a few unhurried portraits on the gallery above the hall, with the brass balustrade framing them and the skylight above.
Confetti on the steps
The grand front steps on Wandsworth High Street are made for a confetti exit. Everyone lined up, the petals flew, and Joe and Beth came down laughing.
Photography tips for Wandsworth Town Hall
Count your photographer in your numbers. Room capacities include everyone, so in the smaller rooms your photographer takes one of the places.
Leave 20–30 minutes after the ceremony. The marble hall and staircase are the highlight, and a little breathing room means portraits feel relaxed rather than rushed.
Remember you're sharing the building. Other couples marry here on the same day, so I keep things moving gently and work around them.
Plan your confetti moment. The front steps are perfect for it. Let your guests know ahead of time so they head outside first and line both sides.
Ask a guest to gather the little ones. Family moments with grandparents and children are often the ones you treasure most.
